It may be a student dorm, but Anker Hostel at Storgata 55 welcomes travellers of any age. Its rooms are simple and spacious and those looking for ambience may want to look elsewhere. However, Anker Hostel offers private rooms (all rooms have a private bath and shower), parking, a bar, kitchen, elevators, luggage lockers, self-serve laundry, Internet access and 24-hour reception in the summer.
Prices at Anker Hostel range from about 205 kroner for a bed in a five-bed or six-bed dorm to about 560 kroner for a single. Sheets may be rented for about 50 kroner, and a rented towel costs about 20 kroner. Breakfast is available in the adjacent Best Western hotel for about 75 kroner. Oslo Youth Hostel Haraldsheim
Oslo Youth Hostel Haraldsheim at Haraldsheimveien 4 means it’s 4 kilometres from the city centre, but if offers a great view of the city and the Oslofjord. Open from Jan. 2 to Dec. 23, the hostel is equipped with a kitchen, dryers, Internet, a TV room, non-smoking lounge, washing machines, a vending machine and 24-hour reception. There is no curfew.
With respect to rooms, Oslo Youth Hostel Haraldsheim has 69 of them, with 268 beds. Rooms are male only and female only rooms — no mixed rooms. All rooms come with lockers. Forty rooms have in-room bathrooms and nine rooms are equipped to accommodate physically challenged guests.
Prices, which include breakfast, range from about 245 kroner for a bed in shared four-bed room without a bathroom to about 625 kroner for a two-bed room with a bathroom. There’s a charge of 25 kroner upon arrival for guests without a YHA membership card. Guests may rent sheets for 20 kroner (though they may bring their own) and towels for 20 kroner. Sleeping bags are not allowed. Online bookings are welcome.
Sentrum Pensjonat in Oslo
Sentrum Pensjonat hostel is in downtown Oslo, at Tollbugaten 8, within quick access to Karl Johan for shopaholics. Its amenities include free laundry and linen, and it has a kitchen, Internet access, luggage storage, street parking, bike parking, a tours desk, TV lounge and an iron and ironing board. Prices range from about 230 kroner for a dorm bed to a twin/double room for 650 kroner. Bookings can be made online.
Central Oslo and nearby areas offer travellers a few hostels to choose from, which include basic amenities for little cost. The savings can translate into more funds that can be spent on exploring Oslo or the rest of Norway, for those heading further afield. Travellers are advised to book their all their hostels in advance, to increase their chances — and peace of mind — of having places to stay.
